Eight-year-old Miracle had just graduated 1st grade when she was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of brain cancer. Before her diagnosis, she was hyper, outgoing and very smart.
“All of that stopped one day - she didn’t want to bike ride, she didn’t want to go outside, she wouldn’t eat.” Miracle’s mom, Keeyanna remembers. “I told my husband, look how small she is. You can see every bone in her body.”
At this point Miracle’s right eye was closed, she was unsteady on her feet and struggled with her right side. “Keeyanna asked the doctors to check for a stroke, and after they performed a CT scan the doctor came back with the news that Miracle had a mass on her brain, and the family was headed to the University of Iowa hospital right now for a biopsy to determine if the tumor was benign or mastitis. Unfortunately, the tumor was mastitis and Miracle was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. She immediately began treatment, chemotherapy followed by radiation for two years to get the tumor to shrink. Miracle is currently still receiving radition.
Miracle loves bingo, slime, painting and whatever crafts are on the hospitals Child Life schedule. She also loves the movie The Princess and the Frog, especially the song “Almost There.” Miracle loves to give back to those around her.
“Miracle makes port shirts for all the kids at the hospital, and we even showed Child Life how to make them. We have created so many things with just our desktop printer and an iron. She even wished for a t-shirt press machine so she can make shirts for her nurses and doctors,” said Keeyanna.
Receiving a wish made Miracle light up even before she received her wish items. She’s especially excited about a big-screen TV which will allow her to more easily see her favorite shows. She’s even going to share the TV with her brothers so they can play Roblox.
Together we create life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Thanks to donors and supporters like you, Miracle’s wish was made possible. Thank you for delivering hope and happiness to Miracle and her family!
