Amy’s she-shed wish is one that’s as unique as she is.

In the early stages of her medical journey, she, like many of our wish kids, was unsure what her future would hold. When Amy was referred to Make-A-Wish, her and her family had mixed emotions. Many families incorrectly think that receiving a wish is the beginning of the end, but for the majority of children, a wish is an opportunity to create hope, strength and joy that helps them overcome their critical illness. Many wishes become turning points in a child’s medical journey.

For Amy, her fight is long from over. Through every procedure and milestone she passed, she holds onto a bright lemon-yellow scarf that her aunt gave her. This scarf became the inspiration for the interior of her she-shed wish.

While Amy was continuing to battle through her illness, her high-school shop class was recruited by the local home builders association to tackle the building of Amy’s she-shed. They had no idea it was a project for one of their very own classmates.

When it was time for the big wish reveal, there was a flurry of emotions when the class found out they had made the house for one of their own -Amy. They had seen the blueprints and knew the assignment, but the reveal was so much more than any of the students, volunteers or community members could have imagined. The house was lemon-yellow and everything Amy imagined.

“I have butterflies right now because it doesn’t seem real, but it’s actually here now. I think it is amazing what Make-A-Wish does, and I don’t even know what to say because it’s just so cool!”
