Sixteen-year-old RayShard was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and hemophagocytic lymph histiocytosis (HLH) in 2015. JIA is a disease that attacks his joints, causing terrible pain and inflammation. HLH, an auto immune disorder causes extreme overreactions from RayShard’s immune system anytime there’s an infection or a JIA flare up.
From 2015 – 2020, he has undergone spinal taps with chemo treatments along with an entire year of chemo infusions, two blood transfusions several rounds of anekenra infusions and is currently on a treatment of cyclosporine and actemra injections. In addition to the many treatments, he’s also spent several months at both Blank Children’s Hospital and University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
"I always tell RayShard," his mother said. "I gave birth to my very own superhero because everything he has been through, he has fought with a smile and the best attitude."
“This wish will give him his summertime back.”
RayShard loves playing video games and spending time with family. "RayShard and his cousins usually spend about 90% of their summer at the aquatic centers swimming and on slides," said his mom. "Since the pandemic, things have sort of shut him in the house where he can’t be in public pools. This wish will give him his summertime back."
Together we create life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Thanks to donors and supporters like you, RayShard’s wish was made possible. Thank you for delivering hope and happiness to RayShard and his family!
