My name is Trevor and I am a 15-year-old boy who recently fought cancer. I was diagnosed a few years ago after a sledding concussion. I was admitted to the hospital for a few months to remove the tumor on the back of my neck. After my first surgery I also developed Posterior Fossa Syndrome. This is one of the worst diagnoses that could happen at this point. I would no longer function the same. My left side facial muscles would shut down, my left eye would turn inward, I would lose my sense of balance, and I would lose nearly all my muscle and weight. I underwent a year-long treatment plan of proton beam radiation and chemotherapy, along with extensive PT, OT and speech therapy. I didn’t like that outcome, so I worked hard and gave the hospital the best recovery results that they have seen. I am still going to PT and OT every week, but I have improved my balance greatly! I had a surgery that fixed my eye and now my health is moving in the right direction.
I am a restless person, and I always want to have something to do. If I can do anything to change something, I will do it. I am an outdoor person, and I love to hunt and fish. I have always loved to play baseball, but since my diagnosis I have focused my attention to my school’s Robotics team and love it.
Looking back over these past years this journey has taught me there's light on the other end of the tunnel. My mom has said many times how our time spent together in the hospital has brought us closer together and has allowed us to meet so many wonderful people. We have been blessed by so many friends and family. It has taught us to be open to receive blessings from others, and to also be a blessing to those around us. My wish was to receive a 3 in 1 Snapmaker machine so I can do 3D printing, laser engraving and CNC. I wanted this wish because it gives me something useful to do, and I can bless others in a different way now.
