Twenty-year old Alexandria is a two-time cancer survivor and is now nine months cancer free! She was first diagnosed at 15, with papillary carcinoma which was treated by a total thyroidectomy, the removal of ten lymph nodes and oral radiation. Two years later, she was diagnosed with (ALL) leukemia. (ALL) Leukemia is a blood cancer that is treated with intense chemotherapy. Many treatments were 24-hour chemo runs as well as spinal taps to have chemo placed directly in her spinal fluid. For two and a half years she went through chemotherapy and just finished her treatments in March of 2021. She now goes in once a month to have check-ups and blood draws.

Alexandria is a bright, fun and loving young lady. She is the type of person to put others before herself. She likes the singer Machine Gun Kelly and cheers for the Green Bay Packers on Thursdays and Sundays. Alex works at a coffee shop in her hometown, and she looks forward to going to work every morning. When she is not working, she sings, watches movies with her family or has fun with friends playing board games. Alexandria has made the decision to pursue her career in the medical field as a Pediatric Oncologist since she feels that she could have empathy for her patients because of what she has gone through growing up.

This Make-A-Wish trip meant everything to us as a family. When Alex was in treatment, we as a family were separated, with Alexandria and I in Omaha and Neb, Dad, and siblings at home in Le Mars, Iowa. When she would be getting treatment the rest of the family would be two hours away at home, so being together and spending quality time as a family in paradise was a dream come true!! We couldn’t be more grateful to Make-A-Wish for this amazing getaway that we received! Thank you all so much!!
